About Aperture22

A Photography Intelligence Companion, built by a photographer on the journey, for others on theirs.

The Story

Aperture22 started with a simple question: How do I actually get better at photography?

Not better gear. Not more presets. Better understanding of why some shots work and others don't. And what to do differently next time.

Every photography app tells you your photo is nice. Aperture22 tells you why your highlights clipped, how your composition could be stronger, and what settings would have captured the moment better. Then it helps you plan your next shoot so you can apply what you learned.

That's the difference between a filter app and a photography intelligence platform.

Why Aperture22 Exists

Photographers on the journey are the core of Aperture22: the ones learning the rules, living the rules, and eventually learning when to break them. And there's plenty here for anyone who wants to keep learning, wherever they are in their craft.

On the horizon: the photos you're proudest of can find their way to someone who wants them. When your image sells in the public gallery, you decide where your generous royalty goes: in your pocket, put toward your subscription, a gift card, or given to the causes we support together. Aperture22 walks alongside you, and as we're able, we give a little back to the same causes ourselves.

The causes are the reason this part exists: The Parker Project, Best Friends Animal Society, Dogs of Otavalo, AWLA, and Rezdawg Rescue. The Parker Project puts it plainly: help those who can't help themselves.

There's no ask here, and no wrong choice. But when someone sends part of what they earn to one of these causes, it genuinely lands with me, every time. The direction I'm working toward is a simple one: a place where people learn photography in a safe space and, along the way, do a little good almost without noticing.

About the Builder

Duane Rogers

Duane Rogers

Founder & Photographer

I'm a photographer building the tool I wanted for myself.

Aperture22 started with a plain frustration: I could tell when a photo worked, but not always why, and the apps I tried were happy to drop a filter on it and call it done. I wanted something that would actually teach me. So I built it.

I shoot, I travel, and I'm learning the same way everyone here is: plan a trip, take the shots, edit, come back and work out what I'd do differently. That loop is the whole product, because it's the thing that's made me better.

I built Aperture22 alone. No team, no investors, just me and a lot of late nights. That's not a hardship story, it's a choice. Keeping it small keeps it honest, and keeps it mine.

I bring years of program and product discipline to how it's built. But that's the how. The why is the photography.
