1. What we collect

When you use Aperture22 we collect:

  • Account information — email address, password hash, and optional profile details you provide.
  • Photos you upload — images sent to the AI analysis engine are automatically saved to your personal gallery for future reference and coaching review. You can delete any image from your gallery at any time, which permanently removes it from our storage. Images are processed solely for coaching and scoring purposes and are not used to train AI models or shared with other parties.
  • Usage data — pages visited, features used, and anonymised performance metrics to help us improve the product.
  • Planner content — trip plans, notes, and GPS data you create and save.
  • Documents you upload — flyers, itineraries, or schedules you provide are processed by our AI services to extract locations and build your plan, then stored with your plan. They are not used to train AI models or shared beyond the analysis services listed below.

2. How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • Provide and improve the Aperture22 service
  • Analyse photos and generate coaching feedback
  • Generate and store your safari plans
  • Send transactional emails (password reset, account notices)
  • Understand how the product is used so we can make it better

We do not sell your data to third parties.

3. Third-party services

Aperture22 uses the following third-party services to operate:

AI Analysis & Coaching:

  • Anthropic (Claude Haiku) — Image coaching synthesis and safari plan generation
  • Google Cloud (Gemini + Vision API) — Image analysis, subject detection, scene labels, landmark identification, dominant colour analysis, and content safety screening
  • OpenAI (GPT-4o-mini) — Companion chat assistant and AI image generation for journal entries
  • xAI (Grok) — Plan refinement

Media Generation:

  • Runway — AI video generation for journal entries

Hosting & Infrastructure:

  • Cloudflare — Web hosting (Pages), serverless compute (Workers), database (D1), image storage (R2), and email routing

Maps & Location:

  • OpenStreetMap — Map tile imagery
  • Nominatim — Address and location geocoding
  • Leaflet — Interactive map rendering (client-side)
  • Google Maps — Navigation links in safari plans

Photos sent for AI analysis are processed by Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI subject to their respective data handling policies. Images are transmitted securely via HTTPS and are not used to train third-party AI models. Aperture22 stores your images in Cloudflare R2 storage and does not share them with any party beyond the analysis services listed above.

4. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Uploaded photos are automatically saved to your gallery and remain available until you delete them or your account becomes inactive and is removed. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing [email protected].

5. Cookies and local storage

Aperture22 uses browser local storage to save your session token and theme preference. We do not use third-party tracking cookies.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Contact us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will notify you of material changes via the email address on your account.

8. Your content and ownership

Your content (photographs, notes, plans) remains your intellectual property. Aperture22 is a federally registered work; please see our Terms of Service for details about the platform's intellectual property protections.

Your photographs, edited images, notes, safari plans, and all other content you create within Aperture22 remain your intellectual property. We do not claim ownership of your images or creative work.

When you upload images for analysis, they are processed by our AI analysis services (see Third-party services above) solely for the purpose of providing coaching and scoring feedback. Your images are not used to train AI models, are not shared publicly, and are not sold to third parties.

You may delete your images and account data at any time through your profile settings or by contacting us at [email protected].

Our Data Security Commitments

Aperture22 is built on the principle that your data is yours. Specifically:

  • We do not sell your data. Your photos, plans, profile details, and uploaded documents are not sold, leased, or shared with third parties for advertising or commercial purposes.
  • We do not use your photos to train AI models. Your uploaded images are processed by AI services for the specific analysis you requested (coaching, location identification, subject detection), and are not used to train, fine-tune, or improve those models.
  • Your data is secured by Cloudflare infrastructure. Aperture22 runs on Cloudflare Pages and uses Cloudflare D1, R2, and KV for data storage. This means your data benefits from Cloudflare's enterprise-grade security, including encrypted-at-rest storage, DDoS protection, and global compliance certifications.
  • You control your data. You can delete photos, plans, or your entire account at any time. We honor data deletion requests within 30 days.
  • You can opt out of optional AI features. When granular privacy controls launch (planned for full product release), you will be able to enable or disable individual AI features (subject detection, location identification, etc.) per-account and per-upload.
